Northern New Jersey attracts
hundreds of thousands of hunters, hikers, anglers, skiers and other
outdoor enthusiasts because of it's scenic beauty, crystal clear lakes
and streams, and untouched "old growth" forests.
Northern New Jersey has attracted sportsmen and holiday
seekers for the past 200 years. Route 23 passes through many of these
recreation areas on it's northwestern path through the state.
At the very beginning of Route 23 near Verona, New
Jersey is a beautiful county park named Eagle Rock Reservation.
Eagle
Rock,
as it's name indicates, is mountain top area having
excellent views of the New York city skyline from a high, sheer cliff.
The trails are relatively level and short making this a great,
low-impact afternoon hike. The park is easily accessible by car and
makes a great leisurely drive.
At the extreme northern end of Route 23 is the Delaware
Water Gap National Recreation Area were visitors can hike, ski, canoe,
boat, hunt and fish. The Delaware Gap National Recreation Area is truly
a four season resort area.
And everywhere in between, north and south of Route 23,
recreational opportunities abound for almost every interest.
