July 2026 is beginning with a “heat dome” weather system over northern New Jersey causing a heatwave with potentially triple digit temperatures. In the garden, we are watering our flowers and vegetables daily in the early morning or evening.
Our pumpkins are flowering with many buds due to open. The squash is also showing flower buds.

Tomatoes!

We are seeing flowers on both our cherry and beefsteak tomatoes. Now seems the time to trim off the “suckers” as shown in the illustration. Our indoor tomatoes were lagging in growth so we sprinkled some blood adn bone meal around the stems. Within a few days, our tomato plants were looking mush healthier. Our cherry tomatoes are doing well but we also spinkled some meal in their pots.
